"We are only here for a short period of time.
"I think it's right to have a drink at the right times, if you want to because some players don't drink at all.
"But the manager has his own way of doing things and the players will stick to that."
Levein's assistant, Peter Houston, claims Levein is simply taking his principles from club football into the international arena.
"Craig has his own ideas about how he wants to manage a football team and the Scotland team is no different," he said.
