According to The Mirror, the Blues have sent Peter Kenyon to Lisbon last week in order to facilitate the move faster.
Although Kenyon does not work for the club anymore, Chelsea still use him for special missions in which he knows Di Maria's father Jorge Mendes.
Di Maria was touted as one of Argentine's top youngsters a few years back and has been the star player at Benfica since joining them back in 2007.
Chelsea are reportedly willing to part with £36 million in order to land the highly-rated hitman.
